Claims Example
Cricket NSW: Chappell – Hadlee One Day International
Cricket is a sport that is susceptible to weather affecting play. On behalf of Cricket NSW, JLT Sport placed a Cancellation Abandonment Policy to cover the risk of international matches being cancelled due to rain or inclement weather.
In December 2007, only six overs of play were possible before rain washed out Game 2 of the Chappell-Hadlee International one-day series between Australia and New Zealand at the SCG.
In line with the ticket refund policy, this meant Cricket NSW were responsible for refunding pre-sold ticket prices to the public. This event triggered the Specific Weather Policy placed by JLT Sport, and instead of the monies being paid by Cricket NSW, the Insurer stepped in and paid the outstanding amounts.
This provided Cricket NSW with the security of knowing their precise financial position regardless of the weather.
